About Our Team

The story about Lockwood Landscape Designs begins with Sharon, a young, married mother of two little girls, Courtney and Haley, who started her landscaping journey as a designer at Fort Collins Nursery in the 1980’s. During the work day, she would bring her girls to the nursery to play with all the other "FC Nursery Kids". While she worked, the kids would play. Pushing and pulling one another in the little red wagons, swinging across the little creek under the willow tree and getting dirty like kids do best. As a young girl, Courtney basically grew up at the nursery, playing, observing and appreciating the beautiful plants and flowers that surrounded her. Thus sparking her passion for plants and her desire to follow in her mother’s footsteps.

The years went on and Sharon quickly realized her desire to work for herself and decided to start her own landscaping business. Courtney admired her mother’s work as she matured and shortly after graduating high school, she was eager for college and already knew she wanted to study Horticulture. She excelled in her program and decided to continue her studies in Landscape Architecture.

Sharon and Courtney always envisioned creating beautiful landscapes together one day. Just a few years ago this became a reality. Plants are their passion, beautiful landscapes are their game. Together they can help you color your world.

Sharon Lockwood

Sharon is an award winning Landscape Designer whose sincere passion and knowledge for plants is implemented into every landscape she designs. She actively seeks out new and unique plant varieties which allows her to design your landscape to be a one of a kind. After earning her degree from Kansas State University in Landscape Horticulture, Sharon moved to Colorado. She took numerous courses at CSU, in both horticulture and design, to familiarize herself with Colorado plant material and has since been designing residential and commercial landscapes in the Colorado and Wyoming areas for over 35 years.

Sharon has a Colorado Nursery Professional certification and has been involved with the Association for Professional Landscape Designers. She enjoys redesigning existing, outdated landscapes to give them new life, as well as starting with the clean slate of a new construction project. Each design project has its unique challenges but any successful landscape can only happen when the client and designer communicate effectively.

The green industry has been a passion of Courtney's for as long as she can remember. Her mother, Sharon, helped plant this seed in her as a young girl by bringing her to work with her at the local nursery where she played with the other kids in a magical garden playground. This seed along with her admiration for her mother’s work blossomed through the years into a love for plants and the environment. After high school there was no doubt this was the industry she wanted to pursue.

In 2005, Courtney graduated from Colorado State University with her Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Horticulture. She then went on to receive her Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Colorado at Denver in 2008 and is currently a Licensed Landscape Architect in the State of Colorado.
